Dreamship was recently interviewed by the famous reporter John Montone for the largest newsradio station in the country: WINS. Listen to the three part interview which aired air a total of 12 times on Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th, 2002
Timothy Martin and Ed Schaum have forever changed the way artists create music together. Ancestral Voyage, the new rock album from Dreamship, was composed, arranged, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely via the internet!
In fact, Martin and Schaum have never even met each other.
But they wrote and played this entire album together, even though they were 2,000 miles apart the whole time. They spent countless hours passing huge files back and forth across the net, and this is the result ... a concept album of progressive music that takes you on a voyage into your dreams - a journey through the past, the present and the future to find your place in the grand scheme...searching the sky.
Excellent Progressive Rock CD - will be widely appreciated by rock fans

First off I think the way it was put together over internet is just amazing and is an exciting portent of whats to come to music. That said, Timothy Martins lyrics are solid, believable and real. They say things I've felt but were never able to put into words. Excellent lyrics. And the music is unbelievable, it soars and dips throughout, and it takes me with it where ever it goes. I knew Ed Schaum was a great guitarist from "Millennium Guitar" but his talent on the strings is demonstrated here in incredible ways. There were times while I was listening to it that I was awestruck.
I sat and listened to Ancestral Voyage all the way through 2X and when it was over I felt like I had awakened from a dream. Then I proceeded to listen to it off and on all day. I'm still listening to it. I love it.
I know my reviews aren't quite the detailed ones that other people have posted on the threads, but I'm more into how music makes me feel rather then dissecting the process, so feelings and vibes are what I write about.
Ancestral Voyage exhilarates me.

Dreamship has managed to produce an album of depth and delightful melody that has compelled me to listen more often than any other album since (Yes') Magnification. That’s saying a lot – literally an awful lot of repeated hearing – I’ve probably bought more than fifty discs since last September and this is amongst the top two or three. There are many influences that suggest themselves, and I mean it as a positive when I say this could almost be an English album from the ‘70s – not that the sound is dated – but that it has a similarly ‘timeless’ classic quality. The folk and prog rock traditions permeate deeply and seamlessly into something which most new-progressive bands I know of largely fail to achieve – a sound which whilst clearly paying deference to some of those ‘70s influences achieves a unique character.

Dreamship has produced a first album that is sure to please many fans of the classic progressive rock acts of the '70s. On first listen the music is hauntingly familiar and the influences of Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull and a bit of Alan Parsons come immediately to mind. While the past has clearly influenced the direction of Ancestral Voyage, after several listens their sound establishes itself as a unique creation that stands strong on it's own merit. Tim Martin and Ed Schaum have created an epic album, fully capable of transporting progressive rock fans into the 21st century.

Magnificent!
I was shocked beyond belief! When I first read the Bio about how this CD was completely done via the Internet...I had to chuckle, and in my mind I heard the echo's of a musical daydream as I imagined what they would sound like....I figured something "mechanically midi"!?! And quite to the contrary what I heard was some of the BEST MUSIC I've "ever" been priviledged to hear on the Internet, or ANYWHERE for that matter! [These folks are GENIUS'S and Musical "VIRTUOSO'S"!] What a full, rich, SUPER-GROUP sound!
I will have to buy this one! I still can't even imagine "how" they managed to even MAKE such a CD without ever doing any of the recording, writing, etc face-to-face? I myself have a 16-trak digital studio; and "self-produced" my CD here....Yet what I've heard on this one BLOWS ME AWAY!!! About all I can ad is a "breathless" WOW! Not only is this CD "polished to perfection"...It is a great mix of genres! Something for everyone I would venture to say! [I hear some of "YES"; "CROSBY,STILLS,NASH & YOUNG; "E.L.O"; "ZEPPLIN"; and many more in this spectacular offering!] {And the "vocals and harmonies" are above reproach!!!}
I have no idea as to the age of these fellows, but I hope they are "young"; as that means they will be AROUND for a long time, and continue making MARVELOUS music for us all to enjoy for years to come!!! My hat is off to these music-makers! Congratulations! Welcome to the WINNER'S CIRCLE!

You know when music is really imaginative because it conjures up images, either from your past or a future foretold in a slide-show constructed of dreams. Dreamship music fuses serenity with subtle power, never overbearing but at the ready, sometimes unleashed, like a tidal bore only to recede back into tranquil seas. There is a wonderfully ethereal quality to this music that defies labeling. When one considers the name, I guess this should come as no surprise, yet, it's worth mentioning because it's done so well!
Then there's the substance factor, that rare slice of the musical pie so typically absent in contemporary music. There is a message in each number communicating both thought and emotion, the kind of stuff that plays to the soul not just the ear. After all, music should be experienced as well as heard. Personally, I find this recording to be an absolutely stellar first effort!
The guitar work...exhibits both skill and style. Searing leads accompany magical pieces and melodious chords suddenly erupt into driving riffs...Damn!! I love it! Style and class rule here, not flashy showmanship! And the singing is such a splendid match for the music! No fluff here, just an honest assessment.

Combining virtuoso playing with accessible songwriting, Dreamship sails in carrying a cargo of smart yet never overwrought tunes. Plenty of wild contrapuntal, classical-styled interplay between the guitar and keyboard is spun around strong, hauntingly sung melodies... all delivered with a casual ease and exuberance which avoids any hint of the melodramatic self-importance often associated with prog-rock. If your tastes run anywhere from Bowie to Metallica to The Beatles, give these guys a listen. Highly recommended.

Can't say just how much I enjoyed this wonderful, truly beautiful music. This is soul-touching ...the stuff of dreams. Both cuts are great: I bought the cd having heard My Machine Alive but am head over heels with The Crysal Stream.

Ed and Tim, this experiment of yours is a grand success! I was addicted after hearing "My Machine Alive" but I know there is no cure after hearing "The Crystal Stream" ... and that's just fine with me. Of course I have bought your album and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival!

Dreamship - a "must buy"! Prog rock is alive and well! As with all good prog, with each listen I pick up on different layers to the music which keeps me hooked. So far, after these early listens, I have to say that this is a great prog CD, The Forest Suite in particular my personal highlight.!
Ed
Love the track "My Machine Alive". I am pre-ordering. I am familiar with Ed Schaum's (he's great!) guitar playing and highly recommend his trip into prog. rock.

This is excellent. I've only heard one song, but if the rest of the album is anything like the single, count me in! I think I'll go listen again.

You have another happy customer here judging by a regularly interrupted attempt to listen to the first few tracks, I really like My Machine Alive. There seems to be so many influences as the other guys have noticed and so far I think it's going to be money well spent.

It sounds fantastic

Wow it is a very professional package, I was expecting a more unprofessional indie label look but you guys have it looking like the new RUSH CD. It really appears like a major label release. Well done. I must admit what I've heard so far is quite good.
